a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

Inspiration oozed out of your songs
Like water streaming out
Of a wrung cloth
And the impacts on the fertile soils
Sired stars, queens and superstars
Of music
And you, a humble goddess
Reeled on, dazzled countless fans
While you unwound in a ripe age
Until eternity beckoned
And you left us as humans do

If I were a country
Will make several images of you
Into special stamps to ferry
Messages only among souls
And you will chuckle in delight
As you are seated in heaven
On the throne strictly reserved
For deities that walked the earth.
Adieu Aretha
