Expectation

a poem by Olomolehin John, Nigeria

I began to sniff a strong aroma
Of a breakthrough
In a near distance

The smell is so strong and stirred
an upsurge within me
Like the stimulation felt by an overly
exhausted marathon runner
in the last quarter of a kilometre

Like the awakening excitement a tired
boxer experienced when he suddenly secured
an opening to unbridle an incubated left hook
That would wobble his opponent to a knockout

I feel the peculiar sensation that swiftly
precedes the orgasm of multiple successes

The huge wave of reward for long-piled benefits
Is approaching fast

This strong aroma of breakthrough
Refreshes my drives
And leaves me salivating within a full blown endurance.
