Khaki Boys

a poem by Kenneth Malvyn Clark, UK

Khaki boys, forgotten faces
unknown names unheard places,
‘o’er the top’, a whistles shrill
khaki boys, lay silent still,
poppy fields dead men’s bones
khaki boys, still uncarved stones,
o’er our land, o'er the shores,
heads bow, one minutes pause,
a hundred years this November,
oh khaki boys, we still remember.
