Footloose And Fancy Free

a poem by Kenneth Malvyn Clark, UK

Footloose and fancy free,
that’s me, no ties that bind
or responsibilities to plague
my mind, a bachelor boy free
to come and go do as I choose,
why surrender my freedom for
a washing line of brassieres
and bloomers when all around
I see peoples worn out mundane
monotonous lives, hear their banal
words of commitment sacrifice
as they play at happy families,
is love that cruel, no, footloose
and fancy free, that’s for me.
