In memory of Grandma no.2

a poem by Elizabeth Grace Shearer, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

With a big smile, she’d stretch out her arms
With a welcoming embrace all your worries she calms
A whisper in your ear, you are very special you know
When you were around her you never could feel low

A friend to the lost, the broken and the lonely
She would tell of her Jesus and how he is her one and only
Praying without ceasing that they would know his name
And rejoicing with the heavens when finally that day came

A woman of integrity, who said just what she meant
But filled with love and compassion that never would relent
Her heart was pure as gold and shone through her every deed
Never walking past when she saw someone in need

An advocate for Stockton she clung strong onto the vision
And led so many others in making hard decisions
Wisdom beyond her years even at the end
Because with her eyes on Jesus she was always sending the trend

She loved worshiping and especially a chorus
And still she knew them all and would often sing them for us
Words can only speak in part of the beauty of our friend
But even in our sadness we know this isn’t the end

She’s in that heavenly place with the lover of her soul
And although we know this, there is still a gaping hole
Because no one could replace her even if they tried
But heaven gained a saint and now she’s sat by Jesus side

I am blessed to call her grandma even though we weren’t related
But she loved me as her own and I’m part of a family she created
I will never forget a lady who inspires me every day
And reminds me in my troubles that Jesus is the way

A beautiful heart
Ordinarily Extraordinary
