a poem by Lee Emmett, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

nothing so bores
as doing the chores
same old things
my heart stings
want to be free
and just please me
tied to a place
others set pace
try to be charming
but repetition's alarming
keep lid on tongue
though feeling strung
patience runs out
now self-loathing and doubt
other suit selves
while I dust shelves
change another bed?
it'll do in my head
retirement dreams
disappearing, it seems
