TEDDY BEAR

a poem by Prerana Pandit Philip, India

TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?
I WANT TO DANCE, AND PLAY,
I WANT TO SING, TODAY.
TOY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
WHERE CAN I FIND YOU?
ON THE BED, IN CLOSET,
IN THE CUPBOARDS THERE.
TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?

“I AM A SOFT TOY, YOU CAN
BUY ME FROM A SHOP.
YOU’LL DO LIKE ME,
YOU’LL DO LIKE THAT,
YOU WANT ME TURN AROUND,
YOU WANT ME IN THE SKY,
YOU WANT ME BY YOUR SIDE,
OH BABY! LIKE THAT”
“I AM A SOFT TOY….”

TOY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
YOU GIVE ME COMPANY.
ALL THE YELLOWS AND PINKS,
GIVE ME SOUND, SOUND SLEEP.
TOY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
I WEAR MY HEART ON SLEEVES,
I FEEL SO FREE WITHIN.
OH BEAR! OH BEAR, BEAR,
YOU’RE A COMFORTING TOY,
YOU ARE THE BE…., BEATIN,
I FEEL SO FREE WITHIN.

“I HAVE THE CHARM AND THE GLAM,
TO LURE YOU BY MY SIDE.
YOU’VE KNOWN ME THEN,
IN YOUR THOUGHTS, IN YOUR MIND.
YOU HAVE ME IN YOUR ARMS,
YOU HAVE ME BY YOUR SIDE,
I’LL BE ALWAYS THERE,
LIKE RAYS OF HOPE AND SUNSHINE.”

TEDDY BEAR, ROBOT BEAR,
YOU’RE STRIPES OF STEEL WITHIN,
JOINTS AND BIONICS IN,
OH BOY! SO REAL THING,
TEDDY BEAR, TEDDY BEAR,
WHERE DID YOU COME FROM?
TEDDY BEAR, ROBOT BEAR!
