Angels in Yellow

a poem by Lady Shaula Salathe, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

A tribute to our CFA volunteers (the angels in yellow)

Summer after summer
The trees around me grow
Many here before I was born
Shaded my great grandpa
As he went off to war
As a young man
On a hot November morn.

And winter after winter
Through frost and bitter snow
They housed possums and birds that I feeld
And tirelessly they work
At their own quiet pace
And slowly make the precious air I breathe

And Angels in Yellow
Saved my mountain of green
But the circle of life
Is written in black
Staring up at the sky so blue...

And death is sometimes life
And the heat will turn to cold
And some die young so that others may grow old
And I'm here on the mountain
For just a dot in time
For the soul of the mountain isn't mine

And Angels in Yellow
Saved my mountain of green
But the circle of life
Is written in black
Staring up at the sky so blue...

And the rains return
And the green shall grow
Covering the black with leaves and snow
And the birds will build nests
In the circle of life
And my heart will look for Spring

And Angels in Yellow
Saved my mountain of green
But the circle of life
Is written in black
Staring up at the sky so blue...
