Ice skating in the forest

a poem by Charles Fisher, UK

She glides on the ice
Amongst the silver birch tress

The snow creeps in:
Through the winter -branches

Flecks of snow fall
Side by side

Fell into the lines
That her skates made

Snow flakes covers
The thin skating lines

Hidden the glides of patterns
Amongst the silver birch trees

That stand in the snowy cold
With sharp fresh memories

That is being
Told and retold

The old birch trees
To the young birch trees
