Doornail

a poem by Melyssa G. Sprott, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

You leave me for dead,
come back for more—
you leave me for dead
as a nail in the door.

I lie here waiting,
alone on the floor.
You leave me for dead—
but I’m not anymore.

You leave me for dead—
you neglect, you ignore.
You walk away,
but come back for more.

I lie here waiting—
I beg, I implore.
You leave me for dead—
I don’t know what for.

You leave me for dead,
come back for more—
you leave me for dead,
what once you adored.

I lie here waiting—
I seethe, I abhor.
You leave me for dead—
but you won’t anymore.
