KANCHI MAHA SWAMI
Till Maha Swami attained 21 years,
A caretaker, under Court’s orders,
Sri Venkatarama Iyer, was there
To manage all the Mutt’s affairs.
In the year 1915, month May,
On the Sankara Jayanthi day,
Right at 21 years of his age,
Young Swami took over its charge.
On that auspicious occasion,
“Arya Dharma” a magazine,
As monthly one, was released
On Hindu Dharma to spread.
In all the day to day affairs,
In the discharge of his duties,
Sri Pasupathi Iyer, a caretaker,
Assisted him as his Manager.
In the year 1916, Month October,
The Dasara festival of the year,
Was celebrated for nine days,
At Kumbakonam Mutt premises.
Goddesses Durga, Badhra Kali,
Bharavi, Sandi, Lalitha, Bhavani
Mookambike are the nine deities.
Dasara is a famous festival,
Celebrated on a grand scale,
All o’er the country by people
With a display of various dolls.
Pooja is held on the tenth day,
By name, Vijayadasami day,
Callling it a Dasara festival,
That means a ten-days-festival.
Parvathi for the first three days,
Lakshmi for the next three days,
Saraswathi for the last three days,
Thus devotees worship three Goddesses.
Like this, festivals are so many,
That united people of this country
As the “unity in diversity” to state,
Whatever it may be their caste.
