(Musketeers Tribute Challenge) #100 - "A Clown's Sad Sonnet" (for Roy)

a poem by Richard Gildea, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

"A Clown's Sad Sonnet"
(title chosen by dear Gail, from Roy's Library)

Concealed beneath worn makeup and Red nose
I try to raise a laugh, yet sadness reigns
Whilst 'Big Top' crowd (tho blind to my held woes)
Can sense the underlying fear that banes
Tis 'loneliness' resides behind the mask
An emptiness to overwhelm one's heart
Yet still I'm loathe (e'en once) to 'take to task'
Believing 'He' had never planned to part
Perhaps in time, twas always meant to be
How could such joy be 'Everlasting Love'
Tho I am wont to ever let them see
(Down here among, I'm dreaming of above)
Unspoken are the words when shared as Clown
Expressed by single tear midst painted frown
