100th Challenge - Musketeers Tribute To RDK - What Could Have Been

a poem by Kenneth Malvyn Clark, UK

What Could Have Been

( When Once I Dreamed )

Oh what dreams I dreamed when you
chanced my way, how unafraid I was to
dream, in your eyes I saw an innocence
saw the gentleness in your soul, how all
the turmoil in a beating heart, ebbed that
summers day, whispered we of life and
truths of chains that bound our dreams,
whispered this moment lived, was all our
love could be, shared we a heartbeat, the
breath, of an ebony kiss, as night and day,
our bodies lay, shared loves exquisite pain,
parting held such sorrow, so much love we
left unsaid, wish now what could have been,
that summers day, when once I dreamed.
