Horse's tail

a poem by Charles Fisher, UK

waterfall spray
It's fine droplets from
Side to side, like
A horse tail
Small archways of rainbows
Came and went as they please
In the hot summer breeze

Groups of boys
Sat on top of the old,
Back worn warm rock
The boys,
Shoved and dared each other
To take a leap and jump,
Down the horse's tail

One by one
The boys jumped
Through the waterfall spray
Through the rainbows please
Down they went
Into the horse's tail end
Splash into the cold pool
The boys shot straight up
Scraped knees and scraped elbows
The boys laughed out loud, relief
