a poem by Lee Emmett, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

crawl towards Solstice
under clouds' sprawl
nights lasting longer
sun quickly falls

set up wood fire
to burn at full throttle
sit under eiderdown
with hot water bottle

this Winter could
be an endurance test
wear layer on layer
and have lots of rest

make hearty soups
served with wholemeal toast
and great gobs of butter
(love that the most)
