Money Through A Verse

a poem by Trevor Allan McLeod, Canada

And they tried to give me everything
and taught me I was poor.
What they said I could not figure out
that life had left to cure.

When they named me independent
for the price their laws secure.
As they housed me in their mansion
for their Hell to be as sure.

Where they told me I was better
for the help that I'd received.
As I walked around their courtyard
for the God that I believed.

Telling everyone about me
that their lives were getting worse.
Knowing all the powers around me
got their money through a verse.
