FIRST OF OCTOBER.

a poem by Moses Michael N, Nigeria - poetry writer, author, poet

The flag waves,
The marching band goes by,
The green to our nations wealth,
The white to our peace,
An epoch that reminds us our beginning,
Have we been freed?

Our Fathers built this land,
With hope of one nation,
One people,
Diverse in culture,
Rich in peace,
Bounded by wealth,
That is what the flag speaks.

Patriotism,
The green,
The White,
Again the green,
To wealth and to peace,
Why the sound of war,
Of division, and hate,
All around, anger looming like wildfire,
Are we patriotic?

Our Fathers built this land,
For our freedom,
For our peace,
For our children,
For an unseen tomorrow,
Why so much a struggle to bring it down?

Many are sad,
Many are pained,
Many are worried,
Many are poor,
Many are angry,
Does the government care?
We can make it.

Patriotism,
The green, the White,
Again the green,
Let's all repent,
With jointed hands,
One to another,
With a look in same direction,
We can cross the reefs.

Let the flag wave,
Let the drum beat,
Let the marching band goes by,
The green,
The White,
Again the green,
Let's come together,
And build our country,
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY.
