103rd Roy Kneale Musketeers Tittle Challenge

a poem by Kenneth Malvyn Clark, UK

The Century I Was Born In/
Take Me Back To The Time

‘Twas the best and the worst of times
THE CENTURY I WAS BORN IN,
a century of conflict war and suffering
yet a century of evolution, of quantum
leaps into science technology medicine.

Memories abound with the wonders
of twentieth century man’s invention,
radio automobiles television computers
space exploration organ transplants a
worldwide web of instant information.

A century’s giant step into tomorrow
with dreams of Utopia for humanity,
so much good done for all of mankind,
yet so much blood we sacrificed in the
names of progress freedom and liberty.

The history of my century has been
written, though our intentions noble
we also bequeathed decaying values,
intolerance antisocial behaviour chip
and pin dreams and lonely old people.

Oft I wish this intrusive cyber world
would leave me be to let my soul fly,
TAKE ME BACK TO THE TIME
before we opened the lid of Pandora’s
box, and kissed our innocence goodbye.
