Put Your Guns Away

a poem by Lady Shaula Salathe, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

Put Your Guns Away
(in response to yet another USA shooting)

[chorus]
Save me from myself
Put your antiquated laws up on the shelf
and make it quick before anybody else
I love
steps in line
to die

Put your guns away
I want to go to school
to learn and laugh and play
and walk home the end of every single day
to walk in my door at home

Put Your Guns Away
The thoughts we orig'nly had have gone astray
I'm left in tears
and saying that I think and pray
God knows it's time for change.

Save me from myself
Put your antiquated laws up on the shelf
and make it quick before anybody else
I love
steps in line
to die

Do you think that freedom's bid'll
kill the rights of every individual
when so many people suffer?
you're describing hell!

Pick up the word community
Apply it to the laws you see
and watch God's grace set you free...
da da da da
da da da da
da da da da duh duh duh

Save me from myself
Amend the things I must and ring those bells
ignore the commerce and the person that sells
the guns where people
step in line
to die

da da da da
da da da da
da da da da duh duh duh

(a cappella)
da da da da
da da da da
da da da da duh duh duh
