a poem by Edwin Keith Jepson, UK - poetry writer, author, poet

Out of the darkness came a stranger
and into the light he did walk
His face was covered in coal-dust
and he had no time for small talk

He needed a shower and change of new clothes
Then return to the family he loved
He had done a job that many would loathe
But for now he was safe , with a sky up above

One day he new he'd grow older
and strength from his body would fade
Though now that was irrelevant
This young man were good at his trade ,
