65 Years Together!

a poem by Denis Barter, Canada - poetry writer, author, poet

After our first greeting:
a calamitous meeting,
She, unexpectedly riven,
accepted apologies given.
Corresponding for years.
Saw much concerned fears,
of a returned, wiser boy,
turn to great positive joy,
when He - from a far land
nervously, asked for her hand,
as he voiced his intent,
She smilingly, gave consent.
He had no reason to plead,
Her answer filled a need,
with her love so declared!
Now the years they’ve shared,
fostered by poem and song,
sees their love remains strong.
For years that have passed by,
He’ll give a smile and a sigh,
when a memory retrieved,
is seen to be as believed,
it is a shining example:
of such there’s ample
that ring love’s bell, - loud,
and of this He’s proud.
Thanks to vows they made,
despite that first escapade
twixt a Lad and Maid,
they’ve laughs and tears
they’ve spent many years,
facing the future ahead.
Love conquers all, tis said,
and we’re living proof,
it isn’t a spoof,
We’ve enjoyed 65 years, together!
