closet space

a poem by Kyra Adley, Australia - poetry writer, author, poet

sometimes there are boxes everywhere
even though we’ve lived here forever
and even though my name is Kyra
the neighbour still calls me Heather

and I think I’ll do some washing
but then I look out at the weather
past the line and over the fence
to that same sky we shared together

and the birds sing of rain
just as I hear you whisper again
I love you’ in my left ear
and I wait for a wet finger in my right
geez you were a pain.
