The Dawning Year - 2020 Vision.

a poem by Denis Barter, Canada - poetry writer, author, poet

I awoke, knowing the dawn was here,
wondering what’s for me, this coming year?
What lay ahead? With the year renewing,
would it be the same old routine, I’m pursuing,
or will I discover some fresh new fields?
Would I start new ventures to see what yields,
if I take a fresh look on the months ahead,
and enjoy new uncertainties, ere I’m dead?
I’ll intend no Resolution, for such folks as I
know full well, in the short by and by,
such idiocy is but an empty dream.
to a yearly old established scheme,
that I gave up on making, years ago.
Regarded as an “Ancient” I know
the future, will remain an uncertainty,
but an intriguing, unpredictable mystery.
So saying, I think, as is normal for me,
I’ll enjoy the new year that’s given me,
and not dwell upon a future possibility
that defies speculation. Time alone will reveal
the future, and conjecture - despite its appeal,
will never disclose what might lie ahead.
At that, I stretched and rose from my bed!
