Late Arrival

a poem by Frank Davis, USA

Long ago
in a land now forgotten
the loveliest and most enchanting
of princesses took pity on a sad ole frog;
deigning to kiss it; choosing to grace it with
all her love. Whereupon, the lowly creature
displayed only the capacity to transform into
a bigger frog. Forgive me, my precious
lost love, for taking so long
to become a man.
