SAI022. LOVE FOR ALL CREATURES (2)

a poem by Rajaram Ramachandran, India - poetry writer, author, poet

SHIRDI SAI BABA

Sai Baba from five houses begged
His daily food ate it at the Musjid.
But Mrs. G.S. Pande went to Musjid
And she offered him his daily food.

She was regularly inviting him,
To visit her house many times,
And he agreed to come one day,
But he didn’t turn up that day.

When a hungry a dog came there,
She threw at it a burning splinter,
And the poor creature ran out.
So, she took the food to his seat.

He said, “I came to your house,
But you threw at me a fire piece.
Then she understood the point,
And with regret fell at his feet.

At Shirdi, one Hansraj suffered
From severe Asthma was cured
By Sai Baba’s grace, but he never
Gave up this habit in the future.

Baba told him to give it up
Many times, but cup after cup
He was taking curd risking his health,
That may result in his death.

Every day, a cat went and ate it.
One day with a stick he beat it
Severely when it came to eat
And crying with pain, it ran out.

In the congregation Baba said,
“One idiot was taking daily curd,
And to save his life from risk
I ate his curd, but he beat my back.”

So saying he showed his back
Where they saw a red mark
On his skin beaten by a cane,
As a result of his saving one.

Baba didn’t mind the pains
That he had from the hands
Of his devotees, in the interest
Of saving his life, at any cost.
