SAI026. RASANE OF PUNE

a poem by Rajaram Ramachandran, India - poetry writer, author, poet

SHIRDI SAI BABA

Rasane said his experiences,
That he had once or twice,
With Baba during his stay
At Shirdi almost every day.

When he sat near his seat,
And was massaging his feet,
He had a thought, one peculiar,
Of making Baba his partner.

This thought of his, Baba read,
And then immediately he said,
That he was a sanyasi, not to get
Involved in any worldly benefit.

He asked Baba the first question,
If all the crowd of men and women
In the Mosque, got their benefits,
And were free from their problems?

Baba laughed and replied like this.
“When the mango tree blossoms
All flowers don’t become fruits,
Most of them fall off by winds.”

The second one he then asked,
If and when Baba disappeared,
How he would fare without him,
On this earth all the time?

Baba told him that he would
Remain with him always, dead
Or alive, whenever or wherever,
He would come rushing there.

It so happened that once
His wife’s valuable jewels
Were stolen by one his friends,
When they came as his guests.

Before Baba’s photo, he cried.
Next day, his friend returned,
All the jewels, with all his regrets,
For having taken those valuables.

So, Baba kept up his words before
1918, his departure and thereafter
And he believed that Baba never left
While blessing him till his last.
