Startled the hedge is

a poem by Charles Fisher, UK

Startled the hedge is
The pitless driven rain
Endeavour to unseat the hedge
From its grounded web secured roots
Wretchedness the hedge feels
As the stormy rain soak wind
Blows and blows and blows!
Like an wolf that wants to blow
A house down, and devour the
Home contents with a satisfied frowned
But, the hedge trustworthy,
In its own steadfastness
Knows it can outlast the storm blast
