a poem by Paul Butters, UK
Let your mind’s eye fly forwardRight out the windowThrough that faint reflectionOf your lounge.Let it flyOver those regulated blocks We call estatesThe ant city landscapeThen over the plains To the sea.Head to the far horizon,Over the curve Of The EarthAnd onInto blackest space.Out by PlutoThrough Orion’s BeltAnd The Milky Way.Beyond AndromedaAnd countless galaxy clusters. Then look backTowards our tiny blue marble.Look backAt everything we know.See how trivialWe humansReally are.Our world,A tiny speckUpon the canvasOf the cosmos. One grain of sandUpon an infinite beach. Then fly back homeBut still rememberThat the Glory of ExistenceIs EverywhereTo be enjoyedAnd cherishedWhile ever we live.Paul Butters© PB 21\7\2020.
