Wheelchair : Lyrics

a poem by Charles Fisher, UK

Wheelchair wheeling:
Along the front of a setting sun
No u turn on this wheelchair run
Hands rotate the wheels,
In his world of unreal;
People walking,
Make way for him
As he speeds by on a highway
That's etched in front of his eyes

He hammers along-
If his lower half has long-
Legs that are muscular and strong
The way they were
One time ago
Agony in his hands and shoulders
Pain of those long ago flows
Like the water on the other side
Of the tree line gaps
Between the sea salty tastes air
His fingers swipes away memories

Wheelchair wheeling
Along the front of a setting sun
Between the sea salty tastes air,
His fingers swipes away his tears
