a poem by Melyssa G. Sprott, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

I await your return from the dark,
like the way an addict needs.
I cannot sleep until you are safe.
For the day you return I bleed.

We are sisters above all else,
with both joys and adversities.
I’m dying here without you,
for your return I slowly bleed.

My nieces are in danger
and no one wants to see.
They won’t be safe until they are home.
So for the children I bleed.

Please tell me the motive
for causing this misery.
Domestic violence is a crime.
I wait for you and bleed.
