Stranger

a poem by Melyssa G. Sprott, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful,
hate me because I’m better than you.
Don’t hate me because you’re a liar,
despise me because I am the truth.

Hate me because I’m strong.
Don’t blame me if you’re weak.
Don’t hate me because I’m spoken to,
detest me because I speak.

Don’t hate me because I’m more than I seem
and you just never knew.
Don’t hate me because I’m perfect,
hate me because this will never be you.

Don’t hate me because I’m all you wish to be,
envy me because you’re bitter and vain.
Don’t hate me because I’m walking sorrow,
loathe me for being the source of your pain.

Don’t hate me because you’re a sinner,
I am only responsible for the things that I do.
Don’t hate me because I’ve lost my mind,
hate me because I am you.
