My Heart is a Cemetery

a poem by Melyssa G. Sprott, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

My heart is a cemetery
I am crying tears of blood.
I have lost my Grandfather,
the only one who understood.

He told me stories,
we went for walks
we’ve had so many
enlightening talks.

We had private jokes
about false names and butter.
There wasn’t anything
we couldn’t tell each other.

He kept me grounded,
he kept me calm.
He helped me be
a better mom.

My Grandfather and I
quite an interesting pair.
My heart is a cemetery
and I will keep him there.
