"May I Take Your Order, Please?"

a poem by Sue Williams, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

“May I take your order please?
P.b.& j. or ham and cheese?
I’ll give a smile, a kiss a hug,
Three green grapes or a shrug
Pen and paper here in hand,
Your wish is my command.
A Sunday ride on a boat
in a yummy “roof beer” float.
A quarter is okay with me,
But a hug is really all I need.”
Those are precious times,
I log away safely in my mind.
A handprint on the wall,
Doesn’t last very long,
How could I have the heart,
To clean up such a piece of art?
They’re not small for very long,
In this heart, they are the song.
