You Said

a poem by Lila Joseph, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

You once said to me
that loneliness
had the bitter taste of
gall
I looked at you
without understanding;
taking your words
to be another sign
that you had left
this reality far behind

Now I experience this
same darkness
that creeps like molasses along
the walls of my understanding
and I catch a glimpse of what
you meant
skulking like a shadow,
formed by odious fog
never showing itself clearly
yet always present
and waiting to be let in
