Of Love Damned

a poem by Lila Joseph, USA - poetry writer, author, poet

Your betrayal is as sharp as an adder
pressing his fangs against my womb

You flay me with your love
‘til I am naked and without skin

my eyes were blinded by wings of raven black,
seduced by emerald seas girded by sparkling sands

You paved my road with roses and sweet oils
and led me thus to the slaughter house

pulsing and throbbing as does the desperate prey
I am running out before a pack of baying hounds

I lay me down in innocence like a lamb
and woke up in the bleakness of desperation

Misery welcomed me with open arms
now when the night dawns, I arise
to partake of your rotting shadow
