a poem by Mark Ainslie, UK

Hillsborough. 15th April 1989.

This city is full,
Of heartbreak and pain.
Let’s hope times like this,
Don’t come again.
To see those people,
Lost in the crowd.
Their cries not heard,
Though they were loud.
Tributes have come,
From miles around.
Friends we never had,
Have now been found.
Those scenes we saw,
Beyond belief.
But this proud city,
United in grief.
