Two Poems from our Fall Poetry Collection

LIFE

Author: Azure Peters

Poem:
LIFE

Life has its highs and lows
It makes me feel like a yoyo at times
Zooming up just to fly back down toward the ground
Occasionally doing a trick
Up and down there is no difference anymore
You just go where gravity takes you
When will this ever stop?

Life is like merry go round
Hold on tight or you will be thrown off
Sometimes it is easy to stay on but there are the other times
When it slows you get bored and make it faster
Around and around and around
When you stop you may never know
Are you getting dizzy yet?

But really what is life?
Is it a bunch of opposite emotions?
A high and a low
Or is it something that never ends?
Spinning and spinning with no end
This what we like to call ‘life’
Isn’t this fun?

Composed Commotion

Author: Robyn Gushi

Poem: Composed Commotion

I've never seen the clouds
quite this dense before
an entirely different shade of gray
that rumbles and shakes
although not disturbing
the color mirrors that of the painted porch
I dwell on
awaited rain, inhaling nicotine
purple flashes of intensity
somehow today put a smile on my face
I no longer feel afraid
if the lightening bolt shall strike me
while watching for my love to return, comfort
so slowly the clouds relocate
wind quickens, leaving only the sound
November leaves anticipate
their fate of gravity
to be crushed under feet
slow motion of earth's rotation
I hope doesn't take my storm
before I finish capturing the solace
enjoying the sanctity
of mother natures offerings
on my pleasant November evening
