SONG OF AUTUMN

Author: Naomi Hunt

Poem:
SONG OF AUTUMN

To an August moon we sang of sun and rain and youth
Nothing cool or curt cut the breeze, only luminous beams
that danced and pranced in the trees
We were the history, the account of unfettered years
and cupped the world in brimming love
Our breath, unbridled and sweet,
How it caressed the moon and kissed the stars
as a blushing glow cradled the hills
There we drew serenity and there we chased the lapping sea
'Twas a fragrant haven rued by civilization
and shunned like temptation's brackish film
But the midnight's majesty forbade the tide
and clutched those bodies of bliss
that bathed in the glistening spray
Oh, and how the dreams, how they peppered our sleep
and soaked our vantage in tangible hope
So when the crescent beacon yielded to sun,
when the dawn bent to the eastern, autumn vale,
so then would we impart our song of sun and rain and youth
to morning's light

AUTUMN'S SPLENDOR

Author: Brenda Baker

Poem: AUTUMN'S SPLENDOR

Ah-October dances in like a fiery vagabond queen,
Bringing with her Autumn's splendor, gilding the
earth with heavenly hues of burnished bronze, gold
and crimson too.

Hauntingly beautiful October skies: Azure,agate,
turquoise; sprinkled here and there with clouds
of whitest hue. Like so many lambs gamboling in
fields of blue.

And-October nights, stars twinkling, black velvets
set with myriads of sparkling jewels. Clear and
beautiful, like fine crystal.

October, you are beautiful. Even more lovely than
your sister April with her spring blossoms. For
she is a mere child. But, you, October are the
voluptuous, mysterious woman that April spring
will grow into: Bringing into being all the
bounty that April's flowers promised.

So-Sing October, Dance, yes, flaunt your gypsy
beauty across the land. Too soon you're over and
it will be a whole year 'til we see you again.
