Gathering Memories

Author: Deanna Dilley

Poem:
Gathering Memories

  Whether it's photos and slides,
or just some old books;
It's always fun gathering memories.
Imagine yourself living in a world
generations earlier.
What would your life have been like then?
Did you or your siblings even have beds?
Or were you sprawled out on the dirt floor?
Was there a wood fire place to keep you warm?
Or did Ma heat up the kettle to do the job?
Looking back at your ancestors,
Could you have lived in those times?
Children left school to learn their trades
between the ages of twelve to fourteen.
Could you even consider doing that now?
We need education to help us survive.
Picture yourself in your grandparents' world.
The music and appliances and lifestyles have changed.
Hairstyles and clothing are no longer the norm.
Rather than sewing a dress by hand;
you now shop for jeans and t-shirts on a day to day basis.
Look at the photos and watch the slides.
Read all the old books from generations passed.
Always enjoy gathering memories.

Confusion,distress, mom?

Author: Monica Luther

Poem: Confusion,distress, mom?

When you mind is a mess so is mine. I cant sleep cause it hurts when i think, my thoughts arn't at peace with the places that we made, and the chances we take. They're not yours, they are not mine, they're waves that can break while the words that we said can fall short. No one can see the unseen yet the world is awake for somebody's sake, now please close your eyes women please get some sleep. Know that if i knew all the answers i would not hide from you, too much truth can be misleading. Peace is just a concept thats as dead as the leaves but at least you can sleep. Its really all we need
