Two Poems from our Funerals Poetry Collection

As Death Embraces...

Author: Simi Balaganesh

Poem:
As Death Embraces...

  Haunts days and nights,
Silently whisks out lives,
May come now or any day,
And take our loved ones away..

Think of it and you will falter,
No escape, not even at the altar,
In the end for all of us,
Live for the moment as are blessed.

Most unknown, most unclear..
Most horrific, when it is near..
So live your dreams or desires..
Coz' none's yours when in pyres.

Nothing matches its worth,
Not even the purpose of birth,
Not even the cost of life,
Not even the grief of a wife.

So live a life of moments,
To cherish in the darkest torments,
Coz' once it gets you there,
Nothing will save thee, not even a prayer!

OBITUARIES

Author: Jacinta Ramayah

Poem: OBITUARIES

Love to read obituaries in the daily
but have to do them secretly,
Once was caught by daughter
who looked at me in horror.

“How morbid can you get,” she retorted.
“Just wanted to read about the departed.
With the living, to share my sympathy
when loved ones leave unexpectedly.”

“I know I won’t be around one day,
wonder what all of you will say.”
Son with a smirk, had a fast reply,
“ It’s a surprise for you. Please don’t pry.”

Their father who usually keeps silent,
bit out a caustic statement,
“How do you expect the crowd to be present,
When at their weddings, you are always absent.”
