Two Poems from our Funerals Poetry Collection

a day in my life

Author: tyler michaels

Poem:
a day in my life

  “A day in my life”

It is the brightness of the light that hurts my eyes, that stings and stains my eyes. A face and form unable to see again… I mourn, imagining a life and voice I am unable to see or hear again. The rise and fall of the voice of the obscure and frail man I will miss and remember forever on this still and chilly day.

Soldiers lined along the grassy hill waiting silently for the moment. I woke from my silent sadness as the guns began to fire one right after the other, twenty-one shots fired, noise within the quiet, until they had finished though time still moved on, this moment in my life moving ahead to quickly to stop.

All of this has happened in a blink of an eye, suddenly everything stops and I sit here with overwhelming thoughts of love and memories. Though through the darkness of this day as I stare at the rather small metal box that is now what is left of this frail body I see a giant of a man… my grandpa.

PROPAGANDA

Author: Marie Smith

Poem: PROPAGANDA

Man with the sythe, grim reaper, and such.
Words to inspire fear amongst us.
This propaganda is starting to wane.
I'm not scared of dying,
living's a pain.
Death's a great adventure,
so its been said.
Must be a good one,
no complaints from the dead.
