Two Poems from our Funerals Poetry Collection

MOTHER, WARRIOR, ANOINTED PRINCESS

Author: Kevin Johnson

Poem:
MOTHER, WARRIOR, ANOINTED PRINCESS

And behold, I looked and I saw a glorious door, and it was open,
And I beheld Satan fall as lightning from the Heavens,
And he sought to make war with the Saints…And The Woman…
But I beheld another immaculate spectacle, unique and wondrous, adorned in a radiant white.
The clouds rolled back and she sprang forth from the dust of the earth – and a glorious light was upon her face.

She danced from Africa, across the treacherous waters and she did comfort them…Yes, she comforted them.
Then along came a swift wind and carried her to Predestination where she planted beautiful flowers among the Whistling Trees. And the flowers spoke of her faith and diligence…Yes, they spoke of her all the time.

And then I heard a thunderous, but peaceful voice that spoke from far beyond the Clouds…
She harkened and was lifted by the East wind to a pasture where she found and comforted a lamb.
And the lamb found solace and rested…Yes, the lamb obtained mercy.

God smiled, the Holy Spirit chuckled and the angels did rejoice…Yes, they were waiting to rejoice.

She was summoned into battle from On High, for she was one of God’s best maiden warriors.
Oh my, and could she fight…She had the battle skills of Nefertiti, the Queen of the Nile…The craftsmanship
Of the builders of the Great Pyramids of Egypt, and God gave her marvelous, marvelous gifts -
Many wonderful gifts.

He imbued her with Power from above and made her a spectacle of his awesome glory.
He made her a remarkable woman…the mother of many waters…many, many waters.

She built Corporate and Spiritual structures with a clarion call to, “Consider the Ant Thou Sluggard.”
She consoled the weary and fed the multitudes…Yes, she fed them every morning.

And then the lightning flashed and the Heavens rolled upon the sea and Gabriel trumpeted a battle call.
And she leaped onto the organ.

She danced and sang and sang and played in a way reminiscent of that Good Ol’ 1950’s style, in her favorite key of C Major, although the bass peddle moaned in F Sharp. She swayed as she sat and played with the confidence of a princess and then she would wink at the children…the four of them…as if to say, eat your heart out children.

They smiled…yes they smiled, and the four of them relished in her anointing.
The saints danced on those old wooden floors, some danced so hard they fell through the floors.
God chuckled, the thunders rolled, Jesus danced around the throne three or four times, and the angels all joined her, and clapped their hands on the Up beat.

The Holy Ghost whisked across the Heavens in holy excitement.
Found Mary, Naomi and Elijah all serving by the anointed waters and shouted, “Check Out the Woman, yall.”
They marveled, dropped their baskets and began to dance…Yes, they really danced.

Satan, furious and embattled thought to form a weapon of destruction… so he thought…I guess he really thought.
He waged war against The Woman in the Garden…Yes, where she planted flowers. So many beautiful flowers.

She fought with the sword of the Spirit.
She praised God with the psaltery and harp.
She summoned the troops into battle.
But she was bruised from an afflicted scar.

And to this end, Satan grinned, but then his grin turned to frightened heed,
For he remembered you can’t destroy the Spirit of The Woman and not destroy The Seed.

Oh my, and to this Satan screamed!!!….I’m defeated!!!…I can’t win!!!…I’m defeated!!!

Then Up Sprang The Woman and Up Sprang The Seed,
And they snatched VICTORY from the Gates of Hell with one anointed deed.

Oh Death, where is your victory…Oh grave, where is your stain,
The works of the enemy are already defeated by those that Shall Rise Again.

And behold, I looked into the Heavens and I saw a glorious, marvelous door, and it was open.
And the woman sat on the organ.

She played in the key of G Major this time.
And then she smiled, turned and uttered, “Preach Man Preach!!!”
And after a notable wink to the four of them, she began to sing, “I’m a Soldier in the Army of the Lord.”

And God Almighty stood and spoke in an Heavenly tongue,
Jesus danced in the Holy Ghost, all around the throne,
And The Holy Ghost formed a heavenly cloud in the midst of his people,
And the multitude of angels joined The Woman in ETERNAL WORSHIP forever and ever.

FORGET ME NOT

Author: Courtney Sheehan

Poem: FORGET ME NOT

Across the way is a forest of stone
Beneath it is many a dry dead bone
Epitaphs scrawled on eroded graves
Are as forsaken as cold empty caves
A howling voice carried on the north wind
Scuttles lonely over the deceased sinned
Stone borrows fading light of westering sun
Which tints it blood red till night is finally won
All day's heat seeps from the stone's pores
As twilight ends and evening star soars
Bright and piercing in the quickly settling dark
As forgotten stories evanesce with the song of the lark
Dimming light contorts stones into menacing shapes
Of formidable ghostly foes enshrouded in capes
But all they wanted was their stories to be heard
In a world that forgot them with funeral speaker's last word.
