Two Poems from our Graduations Poetry Collection

FIRST DAY BLUES

Author: Nyasha Gochera

Poem:
FIRST DAY BLUES

  Memories flitter through our minds
As we've reached the crossroads
As each of us turn from our mates.
The familiar faces in the corridor, the
Laughter, all you know is soon to be gone.
Replaced by something different
Something new and something unpredictable.

As you leave what you once entered,
Here's a reminder of what you began.
Right here, years ago the day, you
Entered what you once thought as a
Strange place, a place you know so well;
Love it or hate it, a place
That shall stay imprinted in your hearts and memories:
The good times and the bad.

Scary, large empty halls
Smelled of eager fear
Children crept up to the gates.
As all we knew is all but a memory
Time and time again we remember what we used to be.

Taking a deep breath, I plucked up my
Courage and walked through the door to a different world.
A long pregnant pause followed, as I know this
Is a new beginning, I open my tightly shut
Eyes to the laughter and noise of a lot
Of new faces and some familiar faces.

I close my eyes in thanks and join the fun,
Forming bonds with unfamiliar faces
A buzz of chatter commences,
Breaking the former tension into excitement and anticipation.

Just as things seem to be
Going great something has to go wrong
Conflict breaks amongst the over eager.
And fists begin to fly, whilst
Voices begin to rise
Enemies against enemies, friends against friends
Until a teacher comes to put an end to the commotion.

The excitement ceases, the day carries on,
Bonds are made, as others are broken
As an unsaid oath lies in the air:
Forever friends, or forever enemies

Even with this:
A good day for some
A bad day for others
For most of us this was the beginning,
For others the end
But either way
All's well that ends well.

Always remember

Author: Dustine Duclion

Poem: Always remember

Always Remeber
It may get old hearing you
Remind me each morning how I should
go to bed earlier and get up sooner.
But there were good times too.
we could talk and laugh until we cried.
Have talks about the future and you'd say
dont ever give up on your dreams,
never let yourself get down without picking
yourself right back up.
Most of all remember when things where
worse than they are now.
How together we took the world on and in the
end we Both stood and took a bow!
Wishing you well Is all I can do for now.
But if you ever need me I will be there for
you, as you are for me NOW!
