Two Poems from our Graduations Poetry Collection

IRONY

Author: Sheheryar Hafeez

Poem:
IRONY

  The world torn apart
Abyss of misfortune divides
Planes of comfort
Fields of misery

What wrong is it I ask?
To pluck a flower off the root
Be stung by its thorns
Lessons learnt of beauty I try to loot

That blood trickles down
Consumed by the thirsty soil
Of no avail it is though
Even gushes don’t satiate its soul

The world torn apart
Abyss of misfortune divides
The dreams not real
Reality never dreamt

The world to my disposal
Horizon I wish to seek
A journey of anticipation
Destination I can never reach

Endless terrains stretched
Beyond point of my retreat
Had I only the courage
To accept my inevitable defeat

Art of pretension
I learn to perfect
For I wish not to go unnoticed
By those lives my words reflect

I learn to perfect The world torn apart
Abyss of misfortune divides
Truth enveloped in mist
Lies loom without a cloak

In the midst of insanity
Seen a glimpse of hope
Foolish I was to live again
For sanity has not yet any scope

The when will my sun rise above horizon?
To clear the obscurity off the face
Let the shadows disappear
Morality we can embrace

The world torn apart
Abyss of misfortune divides
One reason to halt
Countless fears to proceed

I see beyond, peek far in
The skin, the flesh, the bone
Echoes of my voice emerge
As I speak with this condoning tone

Has done no good this upbraid
Merely drowned me in my sorrow
My eyes tear
For I see there is yet tomorrow

The world torn apart
Abyss of misfortune divides
Two worlds I could only imagine
For I was the one devoured

NEW START

Author: Krisztina Riez

Poem: NEW START

The sun rises every morning
Whether there be clouds,
Whether there be snow or sleet
It walks on
Traveling on invisible feet.

And the waters rise
When the sun comes up
While young dolphins open their eyes,
And out in the depths
The seaweed fights the tides.

Trees raise their branches
To the morning glory of the sun
Whether it should rain or give praise
To the little tree mother
Who feeds her leaves.

Humans rise for work
Even in the depths of dark,
And through the rain they see
Their courage to come
As they listen to the song of the lark
Another day, another start.
