SO BRAVE

Author: Jeffrey Macdonald

Poem: SO BRAVE

I think back, he was so shy
looked at the world through his eye
just like me he said no goodbye
If I said I knew him, it would be a lie

From what I saw, he was very caring
he was to, courageous and daring
like all of us, he cared what he was wearing
But in his mind, our opinions had no bearing

Every day he came to school
looked around, and knew he was cool
In his mind, no one could fool
because he himself, knew he could rule

This is the story, of a boy who is tough
even through all, he never had enough
He would not quit, even when it got rough
Because he knew, he was just too tough

Things got bad, we saw it in his face
His color turned to that of another race
His body slowed down to his own pace
because he knew, his life was now a race

The finish line was in sight
He fought with all of his might
A battle he brought into the night
But you know, he could see the light

Nothing could stop him, he was living on sheer
will
we know this because we could see he was ill
When he began to slow down, he would take another
pill
Because he knew he could make it, he had such
strong will

Look at our faces, his life, is in our eyes
We all started off like him, we were all shy
If we said we knew him, it would indeed be a lie
Because we all felt him, even when we said
goodbye.
