Two Poems from our Graduations Poetry Collection

PASSING THROUGH

Author: Melissa Darlington

Poem:
PASSING THROUGH

Just sitting here waiting for our time to arrive,
We’d like to leave this town but none of us can drive,
Haven’t got no silver spoon, just call us deprived,
We’re not exactly dead but we’re not quite alive.

Stuck waiting for the bus again, it’s full but that’s the norm,
We seem to have been lazy since the day that we were born,
If the army called us we’d just lay down on the lawn,
And when the Queen dies not one of us will mourn.

It often seems to us like there’s some big conspiracy,
To keep us in this backwater, we’ll never be free,
We’d really like to get along but all of us can see,
That it’s more fun when we argue than when we agree.

And when the day comes that we have to say goodbye,
We won’t be sorely missed and nobody will cry,
We’ll just be replaced by the new kids passing by,
Just sitting here waiting for their time to arrive.

TO THE SENIOR CLASS OF 2004

Author: Brittni Elliott

Poem: TO THE SENIOR CLASS OF 2004

As I think back through the years,
I can't help but break down into tears.
The things we’ve been through, the things we’ve done,
They are what has made us become one.

We’ve had our rough times, we’ve had our good,
No matter the case we all understood.
It's hard to think of leaving it all,
Now who is going to be there when I fall.

It's hard to imagine us all apart,
You’ve all made a special place in my heart.
I'm ready to move on, I'm ready to let go,
Then I think of you, and my heart says no.

But this is my goodbye, as I hold back the tears,
It's time to go out into the world and face our fears.
