Two Poems from our Holidays Poetry Collection

THE MAGNIFICENT OCEAN

Author: Lize Mostert

Poem:
THE MAGNIFICENT OCEAN

Under the sea their are magnificent creatures
And God made wonderful features,
On the beach you find lots of shells,
I don't know why but they remind me of bells.

In the night you see little lights floating on the water, that are actually tiny ships,
You see lots of dolphins and they even do some flips,
You see a shoal of fish,
Then people catch some, and put them in a dish.

In the evening you see the beautiful sunset,
Which is so romantic, and it is where most people met.
You see people sailing and having the best time of their life,
And other people eating raw fish, somer met a knife!

So when you go to the sea again, look out for these things, and have the best time of your life, for my part!

WHAT'S CHRISTMAS DADDY?

Author: Ira Mckitrick

Poem: WHAT'S CHRISTMAS DADDY?

Christmas, what's Christmas daddy,
The little child said,
As he closed his little eyes,
And lay down his little head.
I thought for a while,
Then slowly scratched my head,
As I bent down on my knees,
And knelt right by his bed.
Well son, I started my reply,
People just don't seem to realize,
They think only of receiving gifts,
As the tears built up in my eyes.
It's not so easy to explain,
But it's so very simple too,
Christmas is the day God sent,
Jesus down for me and you.
Looking at his face,
As he drifted off to sleep,
I knew he didn't understand,
That Jesus is ours to keep.
Jesus was born on Christmas Day,
And he lived right here on earth,
So why don't people understand,
What we've acquired by his birth.
A chance to live up in the stars,
And sit right by God's side,
If we could just get the meaning straight,
About Christmas and abide.
So what is Christmas now to you,
Is it giving silly things,
Or is it simply thanking God,
For a chance to hear an angel sing.
