Two Poems from our Holidays Poetry Collection

TO OUR MOMMY

Author: Lara Kayanan

Poem:
TO OUR MOMMY

A mother always loves her kids
In many different ways
She shows her love and kindness
Through her gentle loving face.

She supports us in our growing years
And never lets us down
Sorry if we are naughty
And when we make you frown.

Thank you, Mommy, for everything
So we'd like to give you something
It is the joy we always bring
Our love will make your heart sing.

JULY 4, 2004

Author: Floyd Kitchen

Poem: JULY 4, 2004

July 4, 2004

I see Ole Glory waving
A warm July summer breeze
My thoughts are turned to years ago
As sacrifices did unfold.

What is this day called July 4th
Or Independence Day?
How and when, where did it start?
Is it here for us, to stay?

As Jefferson penned a Declaration
Armies gathered to face the battles
For Freedom and Independence
Patriots mounted in their saddles.

The battle for Long Island, White Plains
And then Fort Lee,
Forced Washington to move swiftly
And battle for New Jersey.

Germantown, Saratoga, were routed
To surrender
Washington on to Valley Forge, was a
Horror of a winter.

John and Samuel Adams, Church
And Franklin too,
Nathan Hale, John Hancock,
Patrick Henry, to name a few.

Envisioned a life of happiness
Independence, and Liberty.

The Bombs continue to burst in air
As they have in many wars
Men and women have lost their lives
From here and countries afar.

The question asked today is real
From days of old and beyond
How strong is our Independence?
How long will the battles go on?

From Valley Forge to Yorktown
The Revolution to World War I
The Landings of Anzio and Normandy
We have stood and held our ground.

From the Halls of Montezuma
Freedom’s ring is all in tack
Independence is our rightful goal
Vietnam, the Gulf are facts.

The Terrorist's Camps in torn Iraq
Bring misery and bloody fights
We continue for freedom of Independence
A Declaration of those rights.

Pledging our fortunes, our sacred honor
Through years, our patriots fought
We always stand to never forget
The Declaration and its plot.

Believe our rights
For united we stand
We mutually pledge to each other our lives
For this beautiful American Land.

Love for our Country
And all our fellow men
Our Declaration of Independence
That Jefferson so beautifully penned.
