Two Poems from our Holidays Poetry Collection

"THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE"

Author: Amanda Tornel

Poem:
"THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE"

It was not so long ago
there was a war of independence.
The army fought brave and true
to be free from the British army.
Although they were sick and tired,
they always remained loyal.
Their goal was freedom
for them and their nation.
and now 228 years after, their decendants
praise them on the fourth of July
and thank them for making the
"Home of the free and the land of the brave"

THE BID

Author: James Thompson

Poem: THE BID

Dark clouds above with a show of hail
Lightening strikes within the vale
Stormy winds are on their way
Time to find the place to stay
From off the street I entered a door
Just to see such alot more
A selection of items, all shape and size
Could one of them be my only prize?
So many items spread in the room
So much of which was about to consume
For sale by auction on that day
Just what could be the price to pay?
On items that catch one's eye
May it be mine or just a sigh?
With a number of things that interest me
All began to wait so patiently
Upon the floor with so many more
People there to bid galore
The auctioneer begins his role
Facing the crowd he aims for his goal
So many items there to be sold
And be replaced by pieces of gold
A reasonable price for one to begin
And soon the ball is rolling
The attempt goes on again and again
To overtake and make a claim
The item has reached it's expected mark
And still the total lies in the dark
Three bidders are left with the auctioneer
Which one could it be standing so near?
Leaving the room of so much art
Together with what one could not part
The moment arrives, the hammer is heard
The winning bid is now referred
A nod of agreement is clearly seen
"Find the next item for those who are keen!"
