Spirit

Author: Maria Bozrikova

Poem:
Spirit

  Hooves thundering upon the path
The spirit of the wild runs by
He gallops, roaming ‘bout the land
He neither searches, nor demands
Just witnessing the plains expand
He runs past lakes’ eternal sands

With nothing known, nor nothing planned
He knows no future, has no past
He lives the present all along
He doesn’t care he’s an outcast
He knows no place, it all feels wrong
He yearns for where his soul belongs

He doesn’t love, no one he scorns
He lives his life for all it’s worth
His partner fell, her death he mourned
And left to seek ‘pon mother earth
The place from where his soul made birth

Neck arched, he races with the storm
Ignoring lightning’s blinding blaze
He’s neither happy, nor forlorn
To run the everlasting haze
Await the sun’s kind, warming rays

Running, frustrated, past the plains
He stops to neigh unto the night
He rears up, tossing back his mane
Thrusts his chest forth with all his might
Unleashing strong, unknown delight

Rain pouring onto his sleek coat
His head flung up to face the sky
He longing soul weeps freedom’s cost
His hopes destroyed and all is lost
(Through weaknesses, by him denied)
Just frail desires, cast aside
And left to dry up once shed tears

Strength left in him for future years
To gallop past life at his ease
To be the spirit of the wild
To roam ‘bout prairies, run past trees
To feel soft earth beneath his feet
To feel the everlasting breeze
To feel the heart’s eternal beat

SUMMER DAYS

Author: Rita Chitwood

Poem: SUMMER DAYS

While out riding one summer's day
I passed a green pasture along the way
In the meadow of bright sunlight
Stood a colt bold and bright
A touch of nature a sight to behold
As I watched this scene unfold
From the trees tall and lean
Came a stallion looking keen
Seeing his colt he seemed at ease
Childlike play the colt would tease
The colt was chided without force
Parental nudging in the course
Gentleness seen creating a bond
Silently grazing by the pond
Sunlight declines dusk falls
Rest and peace consumes all
